For its 12th edition, BredaPhoto is collaborating with two photography institutions from northern France: the Institut pour la Photographie in Lille and the Centre Régional de la Photographie Hauts-de-France in Douchy-les-Mines. A key theme in this French focus is the power of photography to encourage young people to tell stories and engage in conversation about issues that interest and concern them.
How can this be achieved? In collaboration with the institute in Lille, BredaPhoto is presenting a project by the British photographer Olivia Arthur, in which she uses a narrative built from collages to tenderly explain life and death to the three-year-old daughter of a close friend who has passed away. Audrey Horeau, director of the Centre Régional de la Photographie Hauts-de-France, will in turn explain which programmes this centre is developing specifically for children and why the focus is on this target group. Other speakers will be Henk Moens, secretary general of the Institut pour la Photographie in Lille, and Olivia Arthur. The discussion will be moderated by Friso Wijnen, director of BredaPhoto.
