The BredaPhoto International Talent Programme (ITP) is a European collaborative project between BredaPhoto and several European art academies.
The aim is to scout and support emerging photography talent in Europe. This takes place at various stages of the artists’ careers. To achieve this, BredaPhoto offers three programmes: The Academy (for students), The Residency (for alumni who graduated 1–2 years ago), and The Support Programme (for alumni who graduated 3–5 years ago).
The International Talent Programme is made possible in part thanks to the generous support of the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, Brabant C, the Province of North Brabant, and the Municipality of Breda.
Academy
In 2010, BredaPhoto launched the Academy programme, which focuses on photography students still in education. The programme involves collaboration with ten different art academies across Europe. Students create work around the theme of the festival, receiving guidance from their own teachers, a selection of faculty from the participating academies, and the BredaPhoto curatorial team.
As part of the programme, the BredaPhoto team visits the academies to provide participating students with personal feedback on their work. The students then prepare pitches and present their projects over the course of two days. One student from each academy is selected to have their work exhibited at the upcoming festival — a fantastic opportunity! This experience allows students to meet others in the field and showcase their work to a broad audience.
Opening week
During the first days of the BredaPhoto Festival, a variety of activities are organized to welcome all students and talents. It is a great opportunity to meet fellow photographers, curators, and professionals. In addition to these networking opportunities, there are also portfolio reviews, lectures, artist talks, and guided tours.
Support
BredaPhoto places great value on young photography talent and is always on the lookout for new emerging artists. A key part of the BredaPhoto International Talent Programme is The Support Programme.
Tailor-Made Programme
In this programme, we commit to working with three up-and-coming talents over a period of two years. They are given the opportunity to explore the international photography scene with the support of our extensive and well-established network. The programme is tailored to the specific needs of each talent. For example, we can offer support in the area of book publishing by connecting them with our network of graphic designers, editors, bookbinders, printers, and/or publishers. We also engage (festival) organizers to exhibit the artists’ work.
Participants
Participants are selected from a group of ten alumni who graduated from one of the participating academies in the International Talent Programme between two and five years ago. Each academy nominates one alumnus or alumna to apply for the programme.
