On April 1, Fleur van Muiswinkel will start as director of BredaPhoto Festival. The appointment of a director is an important step for the Board of the largest photo festival in the Benelux in the further professionalization of the organization.
“We are pleased with the appointment of Fleur van Muiswinkel as director of BredaPhoto Festival. It is of course a strange time and we do not know how it will all work out in the near future. But as a Board we will continue to focus on the future of the festival. With Fleur we invest in the professional development of BredaPhoto Festival as international festival” says Bart Straatman, Chairman of the Board of BredaPhoto.
A challenging start
“BredaPhoto Festival is a fantastic photography festival with a wonderfully experienced and inspiring team. Thanks to its socially relevant themes, the strong selection of photographers, the spread across the city and the Young Talent Program, BredaPhoto Festival is the largest photography festival in the Benelux. I am looking forward to getting started and it is a great honor to be the first director. Given the current situation and the impact of the corona virus, it will be an unusually challenging start. Nevertheless, I am optimistic and the organization continues to prepare for a festival in September and I am committed to putting this biennial festival further internationally on the map in the coming years. ” says Fleur van Muiswinkel.
Art historian and curator
Van Muiswinkel was trained as an art historian and curator and obtained her two Masters at Goldsmits University in London (UK) and the VU University in Amsterdam (with a minor in photography). In recent years she was responsible as artistic coordinator for the Contour Biennale in Mechelen (BE) where she gained a lot of experience in leading a festival like BredaPhoto Festival. During that time, she established an international network between four biennials spread across Europe. Besides director of BredaPhoto, Van Muiswinkel is a board member at Why Not, a platform for contemporary dance in Amsterdam.
