The Winners of the BredaPhoto x MPB Photography Awards

On 24 October, the awards ceremony for the first BredaPhoto x MPB Photography Awards took place! Through this competition, MPB and BredaPhoto gave amateur photographers the opportunity to share their work, showcase their creativity and win fantastic prizes.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants for their submissions. We enjoyed seeing the wide variety of genres, techniques and personal stories. It was inspiring to discover so much photographic talent and to see how each participant views the world in their own unique way.

This was a special first edition for BredaPhoto: our first photography competition open to everyone. Thanks to all the participants, our jury and the support of MPB, we can look back on a successful competition. We are proud to share the names of our three winners.

First Prize – Jonas Hollevoet Still Becoming
Jonas Hollevoet Still becoming

This work explores resilience as the quiet act of remaining present while everything feels fragmented. A face emerges through layers of shadow and erasure, partly hidden yet still looking outward.

Difficult times can distort our sense of self, leaving us feeling divided or unfamiliar to who we once were. Yet something essential remains intact beneath the surface. The visible eye becomes a symbol of endurance, a silent witness that continues to see, feel and search for connection.

Resilience lies not in returning to who we were, but in accepting our fragments and allowing them to form something new. Here, vulnerability becomes the place where resilience begins.

The first prize consists of an MPB voucher worth €1,000. See here what was on Jonas his wish list when he entered.

Second Prize – Emilia Heijmans Lonely Things 03
Emilia Heijmans Lonely Things 03

In the series Lonely Things, the thin line between boredom and overstimulation is explored. Growing up in cities can create a longing for the quiet of nature, empty spaces and silence. Yet when everything becomes too quiet, the mind starts searching for stimulation again, caught between the need for stillness and the constant pull of the modern world.

The work reflects on how we navigate this tension as humans, searching for balance in a world that rarely stands still. Perhaps solace lies in finding peace somewhere in between.

The first prize consists of an MPB voucher worth €800. See here what was on Emilia her wish list when she entered.

Third Price - Robert Willis Presence
Robert Willis Presence

An unposed street portrait of a composed and proud elderly woman sitting in a café in Liège. Her quiet presence speaks of resilience in the face of ageing, reflecting a strength and dignity that remain through the passing of time.

The first prize consists of an MPB voucher worth €500. See here what was on Robert his wish list when he entered.

Congratulations to all three winners! And, of course, thank you to everyone who took part.

A special thank you

Thank You, MPB!

The BredaPhoto x MPB Photography Awards would not have been possible without our partner and sponsor, MPB. We would like to thank the team for their trust, valuable input and wonderful collaboration throughout this first edition.

MPB is an online platform specialising in the buying and selling of pre-owned photo and video equipment. From camera bodies and lenses to accessories and essential photography gear, MPB offers an extensive range of equipment to suit photographers with different needs, ambitions and budgets.

By giving pre-owned equipment a new lease of life, MPB makes quality photography gear more accessible while supporting a more sustainable approach to photography. Whether photographers are looking to invest in their first camera, discover a new lens or expand their existing kit, MPB offers opportunities to find the right equipment for their creative journey.

Thanks to MPB’s support, we were able to offer three fantastic prizes: vouchers worth €1,000, €800 and €500. We also greatly appreciated the team’s involvement in shaping the competition, contributing to the judging process and helping bring this first edition to life.

Thank You to Our Jury

A competition like this calls for a dedicated jury with a keen eye for creativity and photographic quality. We would like to sincerely thank our jury members for their time, expertise and commitment.

  • Friso Wijnen, Director of BredaPhoto, contributed his knowledge and close involvement with the organisation.
  • Cora Sens, Chair of the Royal Dutch Photographic Association (Koninklijke Nederlandse Fotobond), brought her extensive experience and perspective from the world of photography.
  • Carmen Spella, who led the project on behalf of MPB, represented our partner and played an important role in bringing the competition together.

Their different perspectives and careful consideration of the submissions helped us recognise three outstanding photographs. We are grateful to each of them for helping make this first edition a success.

Finally

With the awards ceremony, we bring the first BredaPhoto x MPB Photography Awards to a close. We look back with pride on the many inspiring submissions and are grateful to everyone who helped make this competition possible.

Congratulations to our winners, thank you to all participants for sharing their work, and a special thank you to MPB and our jury members for their invaluable contributions.
