De Fluisterwolk (The Whispering Cloud)
The ‘Prague horn’, which in a previous life blared out communist slogans, is audible only to whoever is standing inside the glass house, connecting us with the memory of lost loved ones. A transparent membrane thus separates the sacred world from the outside, keeping it at a respectful distance.
The first version of De Fluisterwolk was presented on the 1st of November 2012 in Amsterdam at the first edition of the ‘Night of the Dead’, an initiative by artist duo at the NDSM-werf. According to Celtic tradition, on the 1st of November the souls of the deceased come down to earth to be reunited with their loved ones for one night and one day. De Fluisterwolk has since been shown on several further occasions. Hetty van Bommel and Thierry van Raaij have developed a new version of the installation specially for BredaPhoto.
