BredaPhoto X Chassé Cinema: Eddy's war

Q&A with Eddy van Wessel

Eddy's oorlog

Dutch most awarded war photographer Eddy van Wessel won last year’s Zilveren Camera with his series ‘Ruins for Freedom’. One of the images from this series is the poignant photo of a wounded elderly couple in Ukraine comforting each other after their home was destroyed by a Russian missile strike.  Filmmaker Joost van der Valk follows Eddy van Wessel as he reports on the war in Ukraine, mostly around the front line. In his documentary, we see how Van Wessel experiences and records the war through encounters and interactions with Ukrainians. On the other side of the lens, you are not immune to all the suffering of war. How do you function as a photographer in the surreal reality of war?

On 13 March, BredaPhoto and Chassé Cinema screen the documentary ‘Eddy’s War’. Eddy van Wessel will be present and will enter into a conversation (in Dutch) with interviewer Sanne Schim van der Loeff after the film.
