Vivian Bax Academy visit at St. Joost, Breda 2019
Academy

In 2010, BredaPhoto launched its Academy program, focusing on currently studying photographers. In the program, we collaborate with ten different art academies across Europe. Students engage in creating work centered around the festival’s theme. They receive support from their own instructors, a selection of faculty from participating art academies, and the curatorial team of BredaPhoto.

During the program, the BredaPhoto team visits the academies to provide participating students with personal feedback on their work. Following this, the students engage in pitching sessions and are given the opportunity to present their work over the course of two days. From each academy, one student is selected whose work will be showcased at the upcoming festival—an excellent opportunity! In this way, students get to meet other professionals in the field and gain exposure to a large audience for their work.

Opening week
During the initial days of the BredaPhoto Festival, numerous activities are organized to welcome all students and talents. It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow photographers, curators, and professionals. In addition to these networking opportunities, portfolio reviews, lectures, artist talks, and guided tours are also arranged.
