Exhibition Tour: Grounding - Stories of Migration
On the 15th of September 2024, at 14:00-15:00 p.m, join us at the location of StadsGalerij Breda for a special tour through the group exhibition Grounding – Stories of Migration. The show tells stories of first generation migration – those who came to the Netherlands by choice or by circumstance. Presented works reflect processes of diasporic homemaking and identity formation: both ever-evolving pursuits for the uprooted.
Location: StadsGalerij Breda, Oude Vest 34, Breda
Date: 15 September 2024
Time: 14:00 – 15:00 hours
Language: English
Fee: free with BredaPhoto entrance ticket
During the tour, FOTODOK’s curator Daria Tuminas will introduce the exhibition and a few individual projects. A few artists will be present and will share the introductions to their works in person. Thus, Sebastian Koudijzer will talk about The Sugarcoated Venture co-created with his brother and collaborator Tyler Koudijzer with whom they travelled together with their Javanese grandparents to the country of their birth: Suriname. Sebastian will perform a small “reading” in relation to the project. Further, artists Giya Makondo-Wills and Thana Faroq will engage in a dialogue about their respective projects A Neighbourhood and how shall we greet the sun, that both deal with the subjects of migration, of how one might feel in a new space, in a context of an oppressive system.
