Lisa van der Rhee (1997) graduated from St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda, specializing in documentary and portrait photography. Her work focuses on telling stories about where people come from and where they are headed, with a particular emphasis on young people transitioning into adulthood. Through her photography, she explores themes such as identity, personal growth, and the search for self.
In this workshop, Lisa shares her knowledge of portrait photography. For her, it’s not about technical perfection but about creating the right atmosphere for a good portrait. She explains the importance of consciously choosing a person to photograph and understanding why you choose that particular person. How do you capture someone you’ve just met in a way that feels genuine? Lisa offers valuable insights and practical tips to establish this connection, bringing out the essence of the person being portrayed.
During the workshop, you will create portraits together with the other participants. You will learn how to convey your own emotions through your photography. You’ll also reflect on who you are photographing, where you do it, and how you create the portrait using the (lighting) conditions available at that moment. If you are participating in the workshop, be sure to bring your camera!
