BredaPhoto Extended: Speelhuislaan

Stedelijk Museum Breda x Stadsarchief Breda

During BredaPhoto, the outdoor exhibition Welcome to Breda can be visited for free at the Speelhuislaan. The photographs and accompanying podcasts tell the story of Breda’s development as a welcoming and diverse city.

Breda has been a hospitable city for centuries. Over the past 60 years, newcomers have generally received a warm welcome. After the Second World War, Polish veterans experienced this, and in the following decade, the city gained a Moluccan neighbourhood. In the 1960s, at the initiative of Breda’s flourishing business community, Spaniards, Moroccans, Italians, and Turks, among others, were drawn to the city. Wars and natural disasters brought newcomers from all corners of the world to the Pearl of the South. As a result, Breda has become increasingly diverse, along with its food, music, and festival culture.

The Welcome to Breda outdoor exhibition is curated from the collections of Stadsarchief Breda and Stedelijk Museum Breda.

This exhibition was made possible with the collaboration of the Arjati Foundation, Buddy to Buddy, and BUAS.
