Who is Your Soulmate? Feel connected to powerful and vulnerable images from leading photographers in the exhibition Soulmates. This uniquely diverse selection comes from the private collection of visual art collector Henri Swagemakers.
Experience the expressiveness and beauty of photos by Céline van Balen, Ed van der Elsken, Nan Goldin, Mous Lamrabat, Erwin Olaf, and many others. Dive into topics like vulnerability, emancipation, and bridging cultures alongside these photographers.
The affinities or differences between the various photographers challenge you to look closely at the photographs. With whom do you feel a connection? And what do the works of Shirin Neshat and Cui Xiuwen have in common?
The Art of Collecting
The photos come from Henri Swagemakers’ private collection. He has been collecting visual art for over fifty years. Since the 1990s, he has added photography to his collection. Among the diverse images, one clear commonality exists: people.
For Soulmates, Stedelijk Museum Breda had the privilege of selecting photos from Henri Swagemakers’ collection for the first time, supplemented with some other artworks. In the exhibition, you will also discover everything about the creation of this unique collection.
