From the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, Claudia Gordillo undertook several trips as a war correspondent to the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. During this time, the revolution was in full swing, and the Contra War emerged. Gordillo depicted life in La Costa, creating a record of places and people who became the protagonists of their own story during a crucial period in Latin American history.
