So begins the film My Little Ambi in which Amber Dooms takes the viewer on a journey from the innocence of childhood to the feverish world of puberty and young adulthood. It is a journey that confuses its travellers, causing alienation from familiar surroundings, bringing sadness and loss. At the same time, it is also an exciting journey, with playful moments, humorous, full of burning desire, fantasy and which brings hope for the future. Dooms plays with the fluid boundaries between fiction and non-fiction as she shares her own memories in a candid and sometimes confrontational way, with her imagined Utopia ultimately turning out to be just a fever dream.
