Carlijne de Wit Cassandra
Carlijne de Wit explores the power of suggestion and visual storytelling with her audiovisual installation Cassandra. She uses the Greek mythology of Cassandra as a starting point for this video. Cassandra is a beautiful woman who can predict the future. But she is cursed by the god Apollo because she does not keep her promise to have sex with him. Because of his curse, no one will ever believe her again when she makes future predictions. De Wit shows the sequel to the myth: her installation Cassandra is about taking back power and change. The video-triptych shows different layers of meaning that are combined as a whole into an experience where poetry and sound work together with symbolic images. So, the snake stands for Apollo, the anemone for the short life, the iris for the mythical and only Cassandra has a human presence. Red is the color of change and blue refers to Apollo.
