This coming-of-age photographic series captures the tumultuous journey of masculinity in a patriarchal society. Through four meticulously staged images, using a highly theatrical visual language, Max Grund invites viewers into a Utopian world. Grund proposes an alternative reality where traditional power dynamics crumble, paving the way for vulnerability and ambiguous relationships between men.
Drawing from personal experiences during his teenage years, the artist’s work explores themes of exclusion, shame and arrogance, as a form of self-protection. Each image serves as a key moment in the artist’s cathartic process. Contemporary Male Relationships reframes conversations surrounding masculinity, inviting viewers to reconsider preconceived notions and embrace the beauty in vulnerability.
