In Sara Francola's project, photography becomes a transformative, therapeutic process as she confronts and deconstructs memories of a past abusive relationship. She projects snapshots of moments of intimacy that she has manipulated or destroyed, stripping them of their original meaning. We see repetitions of empty frames, interspersed with self-portraits. The mechanical and almost hypnotic flow of images reflects her internal processes.
As seen in an additional installation, Francola slowly erodes old prints from her archive. This seemingly ineffective but continuous and repeated action mirrors the slow transformation of something once considered solid.
