Workshop - The photobook as an object

BredaPhoto is organizing three photography workshops during the festival! A portrait photography workshop by Lisa van der Rhee, the ‘Ecological Darkroom Techniques‘ workshop by Dinke van der Zalm, and the ‘The Photobook as an Object‘ workshop by Annegien van Doorn.

Annegien van Doorn is a visual artist and photographer and is part of the collective DIABP (Dutch Independent Art Book Publishers). She has released several photobooks, ranging from collaborations with publishers to self-published and even handmade editions. What makes her work unique is the way the subject takes center stage not only in terms of content but also in the design. This gives her books the character of an art object where form and content merge.

In this workshop, Annegien shares her expertise in creating photobooks that are more than just a collection of photos. She provides insights into both the creative process and the practical aspects of making a photobook. Additionally, she will share her experience with the DIABP collective and discuss the ins and outs of the photobook world.

During the workshop, participants are challenged to come up with a unique form that aligns with their photographic work. For this reason, participants are asked to bring one photo project or a collection of photos that could form a book. This can be a completed project or work in progress, with a guideline of  20 photos. Please print the photos before the workshop.
