Theme BredaPhoto Festival 2020 announced

BredaPhoto Festival wants to encourage social involvement and active participation in social change and therefor chooses for each festival a socially relevant and internationally recognizable theme on which photographers can tell their stories.

The theme for 2020 is about the world in transition and the title is based on Charles Dickens’ novel Tale of two Cities:

The best of times
The worst of times

The title is taken from the famous opening sentence of “A tale of two cities” by Charles Dickens, first published in 1859.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,
it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness,
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,
we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,
we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way”

In short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

In February 2019, BredaPhoto Festival issued a pamphlet as the starting point for the title of 2020.
